Building a Low-Cost Rectangular House

By WhoreChurch

As I was commenting on this post, I mentioned it may be cheaper to build a well-designed “square” house than a seemingly “cheaper” dome home.

The reasons it might be cheaper–at least for the finished home–would be:

1. The rectangular house minimizes material waste.
2. The rectangular house minimizes labor waste (the less you cut, the cheaper the build.)
3. The rectangular house will likely have higher resale value.

So I have been thinking about how to minimize costs on a “standard” looking house while still giving me the cheapest cost per usable square foot.

More ideas as they come up.
